Het is een gebied met bossen, weilanden, moerassen, plassen, beken en akkers. <\/strong><br \/><strong>De Maas heeft er in het verleden zand en grind afgezet met daarop een dikke kleilaag. Door die kleilaag is het van oorsprong een moerasgebied. <\/strong><br \/><strong>In de 13<sup>e<\/sup>\u00a0en 14<sup>e<\/sup>\u00a0eeuw is er een meanderende ontwateringssloot, de Middelsgraaf, aangelegd. Deze is in de jaren 50 van de 20<sup>e<\/sup>\u00a0eeuw genormaliseerd. <\/strong><br \/><strong>Aan de noordkant loopt de Kanjelbeek, een klein beekje dat in de zomer meestal droog staat. <\/strong><\/h5><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>De ontwatering is nooit goed gelukt. Er is wel geboerd, maar voor akker, wei- en hooiland was het eigenlijk te nat. Daardoor is het gebied vooral gebruikt voor hakhout en timmerhout. De huidige plassen zijn veelal ontstaan door het afgraven van klei voor bakstenen en dakpannen.<\/strong><\/p><h5><strong>Je komt er boom- en struiksoorten als braam, kornoelje, es, eik, kriek, iep, abeel, populier en els tegen. Door de rijke kleibodem zijn deze bomen in het gebied uniek van omvang. <\/strong><br \/><strong>Ook is er een rijke bodemvegetatie met daarin tapijten van de bosanemoon, wilde narcis, speenkruid, daslook, sleutelbloem, gevlekte aronskelk, muskuskruid, bosviooltje, gele dovenetel, \u00a0maagdenpalm, eenbes margrieten, knoopkruid, ratelaar, pinkersbloemen, beemdkroon, \u00a0boskortsteel, aardbeiganzerik, gewone vogelmelk en reuzenzwenkgras.<\/strong><\/h5><h5><strong>Er komen allerlei watervogels voor, waaronder ijsvogel, waterhoen, meerkoet, fuut, wilde eend, blauwe reiger, waterral en dodaars. Verder zijn er bosvogels als nachtegaal, wielewaal, diverse soorten spechten, grauwe vliegenvanger, matkop, glanskop, appelvink en ransuil. <\/strong><br \/><strong>Daarnaast is er de kamsalamander. <\/strong> <br \/><strong>Voorbeelden van geleedpotigen zijn diverse libelles en juffers, krabspin, fraaie schijnbok, zwartkopvuurkever, reuzengoudhaan, schorpioenvlieg, landkaartje, sint-jansvlinder, Icarusblauwtje, gestreepte pyamawants en oranjetip. In de Middelsgraaf leven diverse vissen waaronder bermpje, driedoornig stekelbaarsje, tiendoornig stekelbaarsje, blankvoorn en kolblei.<\/strong><\/h5><h5><strong>De Doort dankt zijn\u00a0 bekendheid vooral aan de grote populatie boomkikkers. Deze zitten in de bramen langs de bosranden. Om deze diertjes te beschermen zijn er in de loop der tijd diverse beheersmaatregelen getroffen. Zo zijn er poelen aangelegd, wordt er water ingelaten in de boomkikkervijvers, is er een waterdichte vijver voor droge tijden aangelegd, laat men braamstruwelen ontwikkelen, worden ondiepe \u00a0kleiputten uitgediept en beheert men de hooilanden waar de boomkikker haar insecten vindt.<\/strong><\/h5>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section
