Dit komt door het Duits militair vliegveld dat er in de 2<sup>e<\/sup> wereldoorlog lag en het huidige zweefvliegveld. Toch gaat de \u00a0geschiedenis van dit gebied veel verder terug.<\/strong><br \/><br \/><strong>Miljoenen jaren geleden hebben de rivieren hier grind en klei afgezet. Door bewegingen van de aardkorst en het uitslijten van bodemlagen door de rivier is er een landschap met grote hoogteverschillen ontstaan.<\/strong><br \/><strong>Het huidige landschap is volledig gevormd door activiteiten van de mens. Het begon lang geleden met het kappen van de natuurlijke bossen. Daarna werden er heidevelden afgeplagd en begraasd. Na die periode werden gronden bebost of in gebruik genomen voor agrarische doeleinden. Tijdens de 2<sup>e<\/sup>\u00a0wereldoorlog lag er een militair vliegveld en tot 1995 was het een militair oefenterrein. Voor de aanleg van het vliegveld is er kalkrijke grond aangevoerd. Op de plaats van de vroegere landingsbanen is voedselarm zand achter gebleven. Als deze ingrepen hebben sporen achter gelaten waardoor het nu een 260 ha groot gebied is met heel veel afwisseling. Je komt er naast elkaar heidevelden, grasland, loofbos, naaldbos en akkers tegen. De soortenrijkdom is gigantisch. Dat geldt \u00a0voor planten, mossen, insecten, paddenstoelen, reptielen en vogels. Opvallend is de zeldzame rode dopheide.<\/strong><br \/><strong>Het gebied grenst aan een uitgestrekt en afwisselend natuurgebied [Krickenbecker Seen] in Duitsland.<\/strong><\/h5><h5>\u00a0<\/h5><h5>\u00a0<\/h5>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section
